Conversations

Making A Conversation Video

  • I need to make sure that I position the people in the shot correctly, to correspond with the rule of thirds idea as I think that this will make the overall look of the scene look a whole lot better because the composition of the shot will look more natural.
  • Over the shoulder shots are important in conversational videos and it is necessary to know that when framing, the main person in the shot should take up at least 2/3 of the frame or more with the other person filling 1/3 or less.  This is to make the conversation seem more natural and relaxed.
  • Master shots or long shots can be used throughout the conversation scene in order to reassure the audience of the surroundings.  Rather than just focusing this type of shot at the beginning of the video, you could also place it in the middle and at the end of the video to keep a balance within all of the over the shoulder shots.
  • It is a good idea to keep a variety of close-up shots throughout the scene so that the audience can focus on one particular character at a time.  This is important when you are trying to focus on one particular person, maybe because what they're saying is highly important or you want to show some expression in more detail.
  • The 180 degree rule shot is also important to show all aspects of the scene.  It gives a better sense of verisimilitude which will feel more natural to the audience when they are watching the conversation.
  • An important feature is keeping the shots consistent.  Using the same lens which the same focal length is important in making sure than the conversation flows throughout the scene.

Journey To College

I'm really happy with the way that this video turned out because the story that I have told using the footage all works well and the continuity is pretty good.  The only thing that I would change and make better would be to show Darby going from outside to inside at the end of the video.

Overall, I think that it is generally a good way of showing all of the shots that I have used and it shows everything really well with a good storyline behind it.

Basic Shot Types

Evaluation:

I think that for this task, I managed to create a well presented video that showed clearly how each shot would look.  Nearly all of them turned out the way that I wanted them too however I need to re-shot my long shot as it does not show appropriately the subject in their environment, which is generally what a long shot involves.

Other than this, I think that all of the shots work really well and the short story that is used to show all of the different shot types, also works really well and adequately indicates everything in the right way.

I am happy with all of the transitions and the titles that are used on each clip because they are all bold and easy to read and understand which makes watching the video a lot more easy on the eye.

Overall, I think that this video worked out really well with all of the music, transitions and titles, along with all of the shot types because it highlights well all of the different shot types that are needed.  However, to make my video better I think I would benefit from re-shooting the long shot to give the audience a better understanding of what the shot actually involves.
