First Conversation Attempt

Attempting to film this was a lot harder than I first expected.  Before we started shooting I thought that it would be easy enough to just shoot what was going on and fit it all together, however when it came to the actual shooting, I found that it was hard to get the footage that I wanted and to make sure that it all synced and worked together to make sense.

When shooting this I wasn't mainly focusing on the dialogue, just about the shot type and to make sure that I get a good sequence for the conversation to flow.  The shot types that I managed to get actually turned out quite well and I am happy with the outcome, I just wish that I was able to get the dialogue to all fit together so that it makes sense.

Next time I am shooting, I can make sure that this is what I focus on so that everything works a lot better when editing.  In regards to editing, I am happy with the overall look of the film and I think that the use of the freeze frame and the slow motion sequence works really well to change the pace of what is going on to make it look and feel a lot more interesting. In particular, I like the use of the slow motion effect as it builds suspense and tension.

Doors

In this brief video, I have experimented a little with doors and how I could film someone walking through a door and make it look continuous and effective.  Out of all of the different ways that I tried to film this I think that my favourite one was the last one as to me it flows the most and looks the most realistic.

Music Video Idea

If I was to make my own music video I think that it would be a good idea to create a narrative video, in order to engage the audience in the best way.  Even though I think that this is the best way to showcase a music video, I also think that it is a good idea to create a performance based video, however I feel like this would only work well if I was to have a large fanbase which I obviously don't have.  This is why I think that the way forward would be to create a narrative video, creating a better storyline for the music video.  If I were to create a music video, it would probably be similar to that of a video such as this song by Taylor Swift.

Types of Music Video

Performance

Performance based music videos are based on the artist or band performing to the audience through the directing the song towards to camera or to a live audience.  This technique of shooting a music video is usually preferred amongst rock bands and artists because of the high energy levels that most of the songs usually entail.  The live concert idea, is usually  much more appealing to the audience when they are watching the video.  A good example of this type of high energy performance video is 'Do or Die - 30 Seconds to Mars'

Narrative

A narrative based music video is usually the band or artist trying to tell a story through the video and lyrics.  This type of music video is a lot more developed when it comes to engaging the audience because it draws them in more to the story behind the song.  I think that this type of music video is better to use if it is a slow song and you want to keep all of the attention on what is going on in the video and also in the song.  This is probably the most widely used method of creating music videos, especially when it comes to popular pop artists such as Katy Perry and Bruno Mars.  A good example of a narrative music video, would be Taylor Swift's 'Begin Again'.

Conceptual

These types of music videos are usually based around one very specific idea and are generally a quite unusual way to go about portraying the song through the music video.  Most videos however, do not consist of one simple idea, there is usually a lot more thought to the video that one simple idea.  I think that conceptual music videos are usually much more developed once they are created because they have strong themes and ideas behind them.  Sometimes if the song is based on one particular theme that recurs throughout the song, then a conceptual music video would be perfect to showcase the song. A good example of a conceptual music video is Oren Lavie's 'Her Morning Elegance'.
